As 2024 has come to a close, it’s time to reflect on everything that happened last year. This is my first end-of-year review, and I think it is important for my team and me to really reflect on everything we’ve done this year. This year has been a year of growth through realignment, despite our revenue increase during this year.

In a snapshot, I attended my first WordCamp, acquired two plugins, launched one plugin, repackaged our services into products, grew our team by three, and achieved record-high revenues and expenses.

So, let’s dive into the year at ClikIT!

2024 Financials

  • Our revenue was up 15% from 2023 (including all web design, development, hosting and historical IT services).
  • Made $51.98 from Secure Forms, a plugin we launched in September.
  • $2,006.44 revenue from Infinite Uploads starting from November 25th, 2024 (the date we acquired it).
    • A staggering 95% profit margin.

Big Milestone: We acquired two WordPress Plugins

Since March, I had been aware of Infinite Uploads selling their SaaS plugin and their free Big File Uploads plugin from X. For the next six months, I went through the process of loosely talking with Aaron Edwards. Throughout this, my wife and I did a lot of thinking and discussing, and I spent a lot of time thinking about whether this was the right choice for ClikIT. And in a way, we did not want to rush it. The last time I was interested in purchasing a set of plugins from a popular WordPress company, I called my loan officer to inquire about it and, a half an hour later, I slipped on ice, lost my memory and went to the ER. I took that as a sign from God that it wasn’t the right thing to do. But this time, there were no red flags that came up, either spiritually, business-wise, or otherwise. So, at WCUS in September, I met with Aaron and made an offer. In November, we officially took ownership of it. Infinite Uploads has such cool technology, and it combines my interest in cloud computing, scaling, and business—it is also the type of revenue we want. As a company, we’ve always struggled with billing because everything was so ad-hoc, and it was unpredictable when customers would pay. With Infinite Uploads, it provides automatic, subscription-based payments that are predictable and scalable.

We also acquired Big File Uploads, which serves as a lead generation tool for Infinite Uploads, and is the best WordPress plugin out there for increasing the maximum upload size. It’s used by over 100,000 users, which is a big responsibility that we do not take lightly!

Big Milestone: We launched Secure Forms

As a wager against my own bets, the ClikIT team built Secure Forms, a WordPress plugin that makes Forminator form submissions HIPAA-compliant and encrypted. It took our team 4 months to get the plugin built and our team to go through HIPAA compliance training. While our developers were busy building out the code and the backend AWS RDS, I started conducting keyword research and writing content to get a jumpstart on the SEO for the product.

While we’ve had a small amount of interest and a few organic customers, we haven’t gotten much traction yet, but this is due to other areas of the business needing more attention. We’re excited to get this going and expand support for Gravity Forms in Q3 and Q4 of 2025!

Big Milestone: Attended my first WordCamp!

I’ve wanted to attend a WordCamp since 2018, when it was held in Washington, D.C., but for one reason or another, I never managed to make it out there. The desire lingered, but as time passed, especially during the COVID years when everything went virtual or was canceled altogether, I lost some of that initial spark. However, 2024 was different—I finally made it to my very first WordCamp, and it was an experience I’ll never forget.

Walking into the event, I felt an incredible sense of community and belonging. For the first time, I was surrounded by people who not only understood but also shared my passion for WordPress. It was surreal to meet in person so many of the people I’ve followed and interacted with on X (formerly Twitter) for years. These weren’t just online connections—they were real, knowledgeable, and inspiring individuals who have shaped the WordPress ecosystem in ways big and small.

Beyond connecting with familiar names, I also met countless others who were just as passionate, whether they were developers, designers, marketers, or business owners. These were people who truly understood the unique challenges and rewards of working in the WordPress world. The conversations were insightful, the energy was contagious, and the sense of camaraderie was unlike anything I’ve experienced in a professional setting.

Company News

In 2024, we did a lot of restructuring within the company. We outlined a lot of SOPs, integrated automation, corrected issues with clients not paying invoices on time, productized our services, developed our new site, and brought on more team members.

I’d say that 2024 was largely a year of the SOP. We built out several SOPs for almost every one of our products, including our new sales pipeline. For the past few years, we’ve primarily been operating off what I knew and what I felt we needed to do, which led to disappointment on my end and our team members missing important tasks. With these SOPs, we can perform tasks more efficiently and raise our quality standards to ensure a consistent experience for all of our customers.

In 2024, we repackaged our core services into products and changed our manual invoicing method to automatic billing through Stripe. We set up a few automations to bring their new checkout into ClickUp, so we can start on their order, regardless of whether that’s ClikIT Care Maintenance or Quick Sites. The only thing that isn’t in Stripe is legacy customers and bespoke web design and development clients. I think this will make it easier to scale our services.

In June 2024, we brought on another developer that I previously worked with in 2017, after he got laid off from his previous employer in May. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect for when we needed him for a long-term project.

We also brought on a project manager/business analyst that actually used to work for one of our existing clients before he got laid off. I had him doing content creation and social media, and he knocked it out of the park. In late December 2024, I offered him a full-time position within ClikIT as our Director of Global Sales and Accounts.

We launched our new site in November of 2024, with a new and improved design and way faster load speed! Our old site we had since 2021, and while it was nice, it was time for a refresh. We built our new site with Elementor, instead of Divi. We also used NitroPack for speed, and I am continuously impressed with how well it works!

The Downside

We still have a bit of work to do. Our sales, while up, were not where we want them to be. I hope that bringing on a dedicated salesperson will help this, as I simply don’t have the time to perform day-to-day sales and outreach on an effective and intentional level. We also need to improve our profit margins, as they’re around 20%.

Some clients, particularly legacy and white-label ones, only want to interact with me, and want me to be there for them all the time, and only me. I made strides, but some clients still are not understanding, and since they’re good clients I don’t want to lose them.

We also have some issues with team members not taking initiative on tasks and requiring way too much of my time to complete client tasks.

Life

This year was my wife and my first full year as a married couple, and we celebrated our anniversary, which is crazy to think about! I also gained a nephew this year named Bowyn, and he’s the cutest boy an uncle could ask for!

This year, I also made my greatest attempt to lose weight, but it sadly didn’t happen. My body composition changed to be healthier and added muscle, but that didn’t result in my end goal of weight loss. I hope in 2025 I can shed some pounds and achieve my weight loss goal.

2025 Plans

  • Reach $500,000 in total revenue.
  • Attend WordCamp Europe with my wife and fly in business class.
  • Convert one or two of our developers to full-time.
  • Pay off our debt from acquiring Infinite Uploads.
