What is a Managed IT Service Provider?

by | Dec 5, 2023

A Managed IT Service Provider (or a Managed Service Provider (MSP)) is a company that is designed to act as your in-house IT, without being in-house for a fraction of the cost. They’re a company you can trust to make your business more productive, run smother, an protect it from attacks.

A Managed Service Provider usually charges a fixed price for one monthly fee. This keeps costs predictable & prevents nickle and diming you, unlike break/fix model where if something is broken, they fix it.

MSP’s focus on preventing problems before they happen. Instead of being reactive to issues, such as viruses, internet downtime, failed hard drives – they’re able to react quicker, and monitor your network & computers health to see issues.

People are often hesitant to sign up to a Managed IT Service Provider. This is often due to price, and unknown. Many people think they don’t need a MSP, because they don’t have technology issues, or their business is too small. Both are untrue. Over time, people adapt to things not working, and don’t realize how much smoother their business can run. A 5 year old computer that works? Probably has a few areas to tune up, and be kept up. IT is a lot like having a car. There must be maintenance done on it to keep it running in optimal condition.

As said, MSP’s are usually done on a fixed price per computer. This means that you won’t be paying a large IT budget with a small office. The MSP should scale with you.
